I'm not a leader
What if I do not want to be a leader or if I do not think I am a leader?
Leadership should rarely if ever be defined by a position. Leadership is influence that happens within the context of relationships. Position means I am “the boss,” but that does not make me a good leader.
At some point in our lives we have all had a supervisor who was not a very good leader. Just because someone is in a position of leadership, that does not mean that he or she is a good leader. So, biblically speaking, what makes a good leader?
Christ in us, character development, a mature and loving heart, a commitment to understanding and accomplishing God’s purposes, a servant attitude even when you are being treated like one—that is the stuff of biblical leadership. Even if you do not “self-identify” as a leader, you are one. And, according to the research, you are the most important leader in the world to your kids and to the people you directly supervise. So be a great leader.
Finally, it is liberating to realize that even though you might never hold an official title or an “organizational position” of leadership (and most great leaders never do!), your influence for Christ can grow significantly. You can grow in your character development, in your leadership skills, and in understanding more about Godly servant leadership.
Even if you do not think of yourself as a leader, God has wired you up to be one.
Why is Leadership Development critical to the NAB at this time?
